Notes&ties concept – or what Internet can do for our culture

OUTLINE:

This is a very short text about classical music concert that brings about a new way of enjoying culture: live digital integration into our lives. I am talking about Notes&Ties, an exclusive event, with a non exclusive audience, thanks to a smart marketing approach (about which I am going to write another time). It is the first classical concert live-streamed in Romania, on Trilulilu.

Culture used to be a thing of choosing and committing, driven by specific interests and prepared by certain training. The cultural institutions themselves created a strong difference between in and out, between who may be there and who may not. Even us, as cultural persons, intellectuals, women and men of cultural interests, had a similar manner of getting into (some, at least) culture contexts, where we clearly differentiate the being-there thing from drinking a coffee or meeting someone for a tea, for instance. Culture used to have an etiquette. In many instances, it still has that, it still tries to, first of all, stick the label of exclusivity, an exclusivity rarely in understanding, but rather in its shapes, in its props, and in its fancies.

But we’ve been on a brink of change for quite a while now, a change of approach within many of our social actions and institutions. Culture, in some area, took the lead (just think of the visual fields, where a new kind of creativity and interaction and integration became the norm) in this change, but in others we are still reshaping our positions.

Why I am telling you all this rather-boring conceptual mambo-jumbo? Well, guys, because it actually happens; it happens here, around you, and you are its first witnesses.

Tonight, at 8 pm, in Cluj, there will be the first classical music concert live-streamed on the Internet – Notes & Ties – New Year’s Notes. If you are not on the streets protesting against Băsescu, the system, everything, or in the concert hall – at Auditorium Maximum on Kogălniceanu street – you may sit in front of your laptop and enjoy what is supposed to be a beautiful concert here, on Trilulilu: http://live.trilulilu.ro/note.

See you there, then see you outside protesting.
